Hey there, welcome back from what was hopefully a festive season!
With January came a new year, new resolutions and unfortunately for many- new bouts of coughs and colds!
When my immunity is down, I turn to a wonder-herb. A marvellous anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, pain-fighting superhero. NO it isn’t some fancy brand supplement, marketed in expensive packages.
It’s something so commonly overlooked, that it’s probably sitting in your kitchen right this minute without you having benefitted from it.
Well, time to change that.
Enter GINGER. Allem (Konkani), Adarak (Hindi), Ingwer (German), Gengibre (Portuguese).
I’d like to share with you one of its simplest and tastiest Avatars:
Ginger Concentrate: a hand-me-down recipe, seasonally used against sniffles and sneezes.
You will need: 70g fresh, finely chopped ginger, ½ tbsp. finely grated lemon rind, 2 tbsp fresh lime juice or to taste, 4 tbsp brown sugar or honey, or to taste, 1.2 litres boiling water, fresh mint leaves.
2 steps to better immunity:
- Pour the boiling water over the ginger and lemon rind. Stir and leave to steep overnight.
- Strain the concoction. Stir in the lemon juice, honey/sugar. Make additions as per your taste. Decorate with mint leaves.
It’s ready to be enjoyed, either cold with refreshingly chilled water or as a soothing tea with warm water.
Interestingly, we in Homoeopathy also use Ginger as a medicine- Zingiber Officinalis to combat a plethora of gastric issues. Additionally, a suitable Homoeopathic remedy can help build your immunity in the long run.

Stay tuned for the next Shout-out in February- where we will learn to concoct a Fat-burning Smoothie.
Until then, warm regards from snowy Germany
