The Fourth Trimester
The transition is from womb to world
What was once dark, soft, snug and safe
Is now bright, hard, scary, large
Gone is the endless food supply and constant warmth
They now experience hunger, thirst, cold, heat
The once familiar is now foreign.
Is it any wonder then that baby needs to be held close? So she can hear hearts beating, stomachs churning and smell scents she once knew?
A few truths you should know. The fourth trimester is a period of transition. From birth until about 12 weeks.
The world around us goes largely from pregnancy information to baby information. The adjustment period in between is neglected. Especially for the mothers. It is imperative we learn that support is necessary in this trimester too.
Carrying your baby is not spoiling them. You are simply satisfying a biological need, meeting a survival instinct. Hold them as much as they need, as much as you need, it’s totally worth it.
For the nights are long but the years are short.
The transition is also for you dear mama.
This fourth trimester is as much about you as it is about baby
Parenting is hands-on, heart on your sleeve, 24/7
Lean on your tribe, you are not meant to do this alone
You are already a supermama!
